A Tier-1 telecom operator in Europe aiming to maximize energy efficiency across its RAN infrastructure by internalizing power-saving operations and scaling them intelligently across a multi-vendor network—without compromising network quality or customer experience.
The challenge
Over a period of 3 years this leading network performance operator had optimized their RAN Vendor´s Power Savings Features (PSFs) across their network, achieving approximately 4% energy savings. However, they had reached the limits of what could be achieved using conventional methods – namely, applying uniform settings across entire clusters or regions.
Key limitation of the traditional approach included:
- Lack of granularity: The operator lacked scalable approach to provide recommendations on cell level as this would have been extremely labor intensive.
- Network quality vs. energy savings trade-off: Given the high priority on network performance and end user experience, the operator was forced to apply conservative optimization strategy nationwide.
